Wnet Chapter LinkUp Wrap-Up: Return to Retail

By Michele Fischthal, Senior Client Manager, American Express and Kathryn Kmiotek, Channel Marketing Director, Fortis

Our Wnet - Women's Network in Electronic Transactions March 29th NYC Chapter LinkUp: Return to Retail at Tory Burch Hudson Yards was fun and invigorating. It was so nice to be amongst women in the payments industry for a robust dialogue - learned from Amanda Fraga, VP Research & Insights at MasterCard, about Return to Retail with some key themes and trends:
  1. The Metaverse is real and a part of strategy of many retailers/businesses - shows innovative and futuristic mindset
  2. Bring on the Joy - Use of color and vibrancy back to our wardrobes & life
  3. The Great Reset gave time to reassess what is important using technology to improve quality & balance (2 hour delivery/BNPL)
  4. Social Media as a relevant channel give retailers a scalable platform for Gen Z and Millenials shopping on TikTok or Instagram (fast fashion/influencers)

The 3 Cs to Successfully Future Proof:

  1. Stay Close to consumers
  2. Stay Current with culture
  3. Create a plan to move dynamically
Trends that have shaped out current state:
  • The great reset: spurred the great resignation, priorities became more about values, changed how we interact, shop, look at our time
  • The great rewire: shifted is 5 years forward in adoption of technology

We celebrated Women’s History Month highlighting Allie's Banana Bread, LLC with NYC entrepreneur Allie Chernick who gave the history of her small business and collaborated with us on business best practices.

Thereafter, we all shopped at Tory Burch, an iconic woman and brand that supports woman’s empowerment and celebrates entrepreneurship.

A fabulous morning had by all!
