The PayTech
Women Book Club hosted a discussion regarding inspirational speaker and
author Simon Sinek’s book, Start with Why. The discussion was
eye-opening, and the group shared their respective thoughts on what resonated. Here’s
a recap of the top takeaways:
- Define
your personal Why
- Compete
with Yourself, Not Others
- There
are two ways to influence: manipulate or inspire
Define Your Why
Our personal Why is our essence, something
we’re born to do. Have you tuned into your WHY? One way to find your why is by
asking others to share feedback on why they come to you for help.
Compete with Yourself, Not Others
When you compete with yourself, others
rally around you to help you. The best companies, like Apple, don’t compete
with other companies; they stay true to their purpose. If you find yourself
jealous of someone else, lean into it. Try and understand why. Do you need to
distance yourself or connect with them because they’re doing something you have
the desire to do? What can you let go of or learn?
There are two ways to influence: manipulate
or inspire. The leaders who inspire do so because their inspiration comes from
a place where they’re striving for the good of the whole, not for
self-gratification or to make money.
